What is #GivingTuesday? Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy. How does this relate to Scouting? Each year, Hudson Valley Scouts contribute over 100,000 hours of community service to strengthen our neighborhoods and enhance our quality of life. From disaster relief, emergency food drives, park clean-up restoration projects, to anti-bullying campaigns, our youth and adult volunteers are making the Hudson Valley a better place to live. Scoutreach is a special form of support within Scouting. Scoutreach offers the opportunity for youth who live in our community whose parents/guardians may not have the means to pay the basic expenses associated with Scouting such as uniforms, membership fees and other materials. Scoutreach is the BSA’s commitment to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background. Together, with your donation of just $10, we can make a huge impact by investing in the youth of our community through Scouting. Please make your pledge today on this #GivingTuesday.
